Every product review, whether those done by us at TopTenREVIEWS or any other organization, looks at products and services with a set of criteria in mind. The products are judged against those standards; inevitably, varying the standards and criteria can result in marked differences in rating outcomes. Such is the case for The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy. Our ratings are clearly slanted towards our realm, the online world. On the other hand, The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy’s orientation is geared towards the neighborhood. Their stores are intended to bring back the personal attention and superior service that are, for the most part, relegated to the past.
Given the stark differences in criteria and goals, it isn’t surprising that The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy doesn’t rank very highly on our internet oriented site. But if you’re looking for personal service from a pharmacist who is likely also the store owner, The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy may be “just what the doctor ordered.” Customer service rankings from both Consumer Reports and J.D. Power have ranked them number one among pharmacy chains.
The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy isn’t geared towards doing lots of things online. Their strength is in personal, individualized service provided in the store. Ordering a new prescription online or transferring one from another pharmacy simply isn’t available on their website. Nonetheless, prescription refills can be ordered on the site. It even gives options to pick up the medication the same day, the next day or in two days. Customers can also choose to have prescriptions mailed to them or, for a very unique twist in today’s world, they’ll deliver the refill to you.
The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy is pure pharmacy and it doesn’t pretend to be anything else, which may explain why it’s so good at offering one-on-one, personal service. Though each store exercises independence in its range of over-the-counter offerings, it’s generally very limited compared to the giant stores.
The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy’s website includes an extensive drug information section that gives detailed information about a complete range of medications. It also has a great section on health information including articles about specific conditions and treatments as well as general wellness articles. Uncharacteristically of a pharmacy website, it features wide ranging, thorough information about natural medications. Further, there are sections dedicated to immunizations and diabetes care.
Many Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy locations have been designated as Specialized Care Centers. Depending on the store, it can hold such designations for Diabetes Care, Customized Medication (compounding), Immunizations, Long Term Care and Specialty Pharmacy. The term Specialized Care Center means that employees have extensive care and expertise and a heightened focus on the subject and can offer a higher level of service than is typically expected. The website specifies any such recognition for any given pharmacy location.
The website is comparatively simple given that the emphasis of this business is in face-to-face service rather than online. Still it’s informative and easy to use.
The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy isn’t a matter of contacting a call center. Rather, when using their web page the first step is to find a local store. From then on, the page will be customized with information about that location. The store’s phone number and address will be prominently displayed as you click through the site. It also shows the store’s business hours, names and information about the pharmacists in the store and Specialized Care Center information that is relevant to the location.
The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy offers a unique approach and experience among chain pharmacies. Each location is individual and reminiscent of the single location drug stores that are largely a thing of the past. Each store genuinely is individual so variations can be expected but, in general, the service and knowledge level is exceptional.
